I think it's easy to sit back and think that your marriage has no problems or issues. Well, mine is pretty darn good. The Doctor and I have been married for 16 years and there is no one else I want to be with. I didn't marry until I was nearly 30 years old and he was definitely worth the wait. I am grateful every single day that he is in my life. That said, I don't think any marriage is perfect and we certainly have done a lot of communicating over the years and continue to do so. We've read books together and we talk about our relationship. I have learned a great deal over the years about communication with and respect for your spouse. When this book came up for review, I nearly dismissed it, but The Doctor said, "Hey, it never hurts to learn something new and we can't take what we have for granted."
I had never really looked at our relationship in terms of "boundaries" before. The word "boundary" can have a negative connotation if you imagine walls or fences. But when you think of boundaries as rules, there is freedom and respect instead of barriers.
When I think of boundaries, I think of the fact that my husband and I do not share intimate thoughts or personal conversations. I know that my secrets or thoughts that I have shared with him are safe with my husband and he knows that his are safe with me. We don't cross that line. Another boundary is that we talk about financial purchases before they happen. Even something that might seem insignificant. We don't need to ask permission from each other, but again, it shows respect and ensures that sudden purchases don't just show up in the checking account!
Every marriage is different and every couple has or perhaps, doesn't have, their own boundaries. With chapters discussing physical boundaries, verbal and emotional boundaries, social relationships and networking, media, finances and employment, parenting and children, boundaries for each stage of marriage, roles and responsibilities, spiritual boundaries and expectation, this is a book for everyone. Read it all the way through, read just a chapter. Each chapter has questions as the end to think about and activities to do. I liked the questionnaire in the beginning that helped to determine where you and your spouse stand in regards to boundaries or conflict.
An important key to any successful relationship is communication. Grow Your Marriage by Leaps and Boundaries is a great place to start.
While there are subtle Christian references, this is a book for anyone who is looking to strengthen their marriage.

It really bugs me when you have to jump through tons of hoops in order to enter giveaways, so a comment with your email address will suffice.
However: If you change your profile to have your email address visible, if it isn't already, you will gain an additional entry. I ask this because it's so annoying to have someone leave a comment you would like to respond to, but can't, because their email is hidden. This is especially annoying if a question is asked in said comment.
If you choose to become a follower or tell me you already are, you can gain an additional entry too.
If you wanted to blog or tweet about it, that's great too, and you'd get an extra entry for that. Just tell me in your comment if you've done any of the extras.
You don't need to leave separate comments for each thing (too annoying!).
Seriously though, just commenting is enough for me.
U.S. address only and no P.O. Boxes. Sorry!
