5 Days to a Clutter-Free House...Review

About the book:
While most of us aren't hoarders we can all benefit from assessing and reducing the clutter in our homes--and then organizing what's left. Many things stop us from succeeding: the sheer scope of the project, the tendency to lose momentum if the job takes too long, and the fact that we're always acquiring new clutter. But what if it really took only a week to de-clutter the whole house, and then you even had the weekend to relax and enjoy your new clutter-free space? Could it really be that simple?

Organizing and time management experts Sandra Felton and Marsha Sims show how with the right game plan and a healthy dose of adrenaline, anyone can de-clutter their home in just five days. With this systematic, team-based approach, even the most overwhelming de-cluttering job becomes doable. The authors' enthusiasm and energy keep readers pushing forward to the goal, and their time-tested tips and habits help readers maintain their hard-won gains. The authors even show how to deal with common obstacles to achieving and keeping a clutter-free house, like filing, storage needs, health issues, space restrictions, the car, and even family sabotage!

The premise here is that if you have five days and some helpful friends or family members, you can organize your home in 5 days.  Each person is assigned a room and boxes and over five days is to clear surfaces and organize things so that you can decide what to with it all.

This isn't something that I could ever do.  But, I think it's an interesting premise and one that might be good for someone with resources and who is ambitious and eager and doesn't mind other people helping.

  1. I couldn't do it either. I clean and tidy the house daily but I de-clutter a little at a time.

  2. Hm, I don't think I'd want anyone else to decide what I should get rid of.

  3. Me, either. I would be happy to have one trusted friend help me, but 5 people? Eeks. And after the 5 days, it sounds like you'd still have all the boxes of possessions to deal with.

  4. I couldn't de-clutter in 5 days either, but it sounds like a nice book for some organizing ideas.

  5. I always appreciate any reminder to keep the clutter down but not sure I would want to delegate it all to other people.

  7. I'm agree with some of the others - I could not turn this over to friends. I wouldn't even trust my 2 married daughters who live in town to help me. Especially not them - they would throw everything away. I'll let my husband help but he'll need to be supervised!
