Booking Through Thursday...Influence

Do other people influence what you choose to read? When a family member recommends something, or a friend says they hated a book you were planning to read … does it affect your reading choices?

Other people definitely influence my reading choices whether they be family, friends or strangers.  I love getting recommendations.  Those recommendations come from family and friends and they come from Goodreads and blogging.  Someone hating a book really doesn't influence me other than giving me another opinion or simply reinforcing my own.  If I want to read something, I will read it regardless of what other people think.

What about you?

  1. Yes, to a certain extent, others' recommendations do influence me, both for wanting to read a book or avoid it, especially if it has a topic I love or if it has content I want to steer clear from.

  2. Good answer. I agree. I feel like other people's excitement is contagious, but only if it's something I'd already be interested in! Thanks for stopping by!

  3. Thanks for stopping by my blog! I totally don't let others people's recommendations effect my reading. I think about it but ultimately I decide.

  4. I agree about the influences of others...and in compiling lists of some of my favorite books in the past couple of years, I realize that they are made up primarily of authors I hadn't read before I started blogging.

    Thanks for visiting my blog.

  6. I base a lot of my reading on other people's recommendations, but occasionally, I will pick something different that calls out to me. As to the other half of this question, I do tend to get a little less excited about a book when someone I know and trust hates it, but that usually doesn't stop me from reading it and making my own decision.

  9. I love getting recommendations as well, though most are from what I hear because my family reads books that are "meh" to my tastes.
Ultimately, it's my decision whether or not I want to read it in the end :)
    Thanks for stopping by! :)

  10. Other bloggers definitely influence me as well as a few close friends and my mother and my sister.

  11. I pretty much feel the same way. If someone doesn't like a book, that won't cause me not to read it.

  12. Nowadays I get most recommendations from bloggers.

  13. Recommendations from other bloggers can influence me, if I already think the book seems interesting.

If I do not like a book, then no matter what people say, I will not read it. (fe The kite runner of Fifty shades)
