Pigs Can't Look Up...#BookReview

About the book:
Based on the viral tweet from actor Vincent D’Onofrio comes a heartwarming story about a girl, a pig, and a radical act of kindness that will lift even the heaviest of hearts.

In this spare picture book, a little girl forges a bond with a pig on her farm, taking note of the unfair truth that because their bodies evolved to forage for food on the ground, pigs can’t look up. Inspired by empathy, the little girl determines and plots to hoist the pig up to see the stars, and in doing so, sees herself.

Originally written as a tweet by actor Vincent D’Onofrio, the limited and poetic text morphs into a beautiful story of friendship and kindness in this bold and graphic picture book.

I remember when Vincent D'Onofrio tweeted the following:

It was a beautiful, simple tweet about being kind. Vincent turned that viral tweet into a beautiful picture book and I pre-ordered it as soon as I could. And when it arrived, it was gorgeous.

A little girl loves her pig and, as children do, she forms a friendship with the creature. One day she realizes that because of how its body works, the pig can't look up and therefore can't see the beauty of the stars. So she devises a plan on how to help the pig see the stars.

It's a truly beautiful story about kindness and inclusion and love.

The text is minimal and simple. The illustrations are stunning.

This is a beautiful book for all ages and would be an amazing addition to any child's library, because it teaches what I believe is most important: Be Kind, Do Good Things, Make a Difference, Love is a Verb.
