Books are waiting to be read. At least one review is waiting to be written. I'm not motivated or interested. I haven't picked up a book to read for at least 6 days.
I've often thought I should keep track and chart my reading cycles, because that's what they really are; they're cycles. I will go for a period of time and read constantly. I'll have reviews scheduled for weeks before they post.
But, then the apathy creeps in (is that the right word? Maybe it's detachment...) and I just don't want to pick up a book, print or electronic. I look at my TBR stack and shrug my shoulders.
Why is that? Do I burn myself out over those few days or weeks of continual reading? Is it hormones that just make me tired of life and any kind of responsibility? Is it stress from the pressure of scheduled reviews and blog tours?
I don't have any answers at the moment. I will ponder the idea of tracking these cycles though. That could prove to be an interesting experiment.
What about you? Do you have reading cycles or are you always on top of your reviews and never have a problem picking up a book?

Ha, I am never on top of my reviews. I usually read some every day but sometimes it's hard to find time to squeeze in a few minutes of reading.
ReplyDeleteI'm so glad it's not just me! I've been reading voraciously for several months ... but have not wanted to read anything for the past week or so. I even returned library books that were only halfway read! Gasp!
ReplyDeleteI totally get the library book thing. I've done that too. I really think it would be interesting to chart. Sometimes I really don't like the reviewing part of book blogging and I think I should go back to just reading for fun. The reviewing part always has some pressure and obligation!
DeleteI don't have the "scheduled" reading at all so maybe that's why it makes it easier to read. Some weeks are slow. I took over five days to read a book which for me is a long time, even though I liked it. Home and office work got in the way! Hope you get the reading mojo back soon.
ReplyDeleteI love reading books right before I go to bed at night. I read if it's only for one chapter or a few pages at least I know I'm reading!
ReplyDeleteI have to read for a few minutes before I fall asleep! Thanks for stopping by!
DeleteThis happens to me too - where I just don't FEEL like reading. I'm reading blogs and finding books to add to my TBR and even purchasing books but not doing any reading. I've been in one of those not reading cycles lately.
ReplyDeleteFound you on No Rules Weekend Blog Party.
I've read two books this weekend and it's the first time in probably two weeks that I've read anything. It's definitely cyclic. Thanks for stopping by!
DeleteI find my phases are how much I read, because I do read most days. But sometimes it takes me a day or two to finish a book and other times a week or more. I've kept a list of my reading for a long time and the most I've read in a year is 70 books and the least was 24. Of course you have to factor in the length and the difficulty.
